Rexroth - October 2025
For October’s artist highlight, we turned the spotlight over to Kerry Santa Cruz, otherwise known as Rexroth (@Rex.roth). Rex is a young photographer based out of New Orleans, Louisiana with focuses in filmmaking, painting, and collage work. “I’ve been doing art since I was in the sandbox”. He says when asked about his beginning stages. He would often draw Scooby Doo characters when he was young and learned about photography from his grandmother who took pictures. When he was in school, one of his art teachers really saw the potential in him and created an art club that allowed him to expand his creativity. His school didn’t have much funding, so he would often make due with what he had. There were times when he would take regular cardboard boxes and make set stages out of them. He would also bring cameras to school and make short videos of his classmates. He would attend a high school that was more art driven which allowed him to get connected with StudioBE. It was after Covid when he had a period of complacency. He said that it was the first time he would try to conform to society and be a regular teenager which he hated. This was at age 17.
Upon graduating high school he would go through a transition that helped him realize his purpose and to continue on his creative journey. “The reason I take pictures is to help understand my visual style for when I do films”. He says that is was his senior year that he would go through a state of depression, but going to Lil Yachty concert with his brother was an important moment in his life. Rex is inspired by Tyler the Creator, his grandmother, and his brother Carlos. He also credits having creative like minded friends that he can bounce ideas off of. Projects that best define him as an artist are the work he is currently doing “Solider Boyfriend” and earlier this year “ I died and Angel and came Back America. Rex also Dj on the side under the name “Doom Dog.” He says that he enjoys it, but doesn’t want to be known mainly for that skill. Rex designs clothes as well and says he’s wants to continue building in that area, because that was something hesitated when he was young. “Usually I pick up a skill, because I want to learn it, and once I learn it I’m like cool I’m good with this.”
Rex has done collaborations with ModspaceLA , LaReezy, and StudioBE. He also has had his work in StudioBe, The Front gallery, and some studios in Philadelphia. Looking forward, Rex is currently thinking about his future while also carving out his present. He says that he’s at the age where he needs to be cognizant of the work he’s doing because he’s getting older and knows he wants to build upon that. Rex has an art show coming up in December as well a block party with more information coming. If you’re looking for to work with Rex or see more of his pieces, check out his instagram.
