Kiazer Sylve - April 2026
For the month of April we would like to turn the spotlight over to Kiazer Sylve (@justmakeartkiazer) for our artist highlight. Kiazer is a painter, muralist, and illustrator from New Orleans specifically Algiers. Growing up, he says that being an artist was something that was always in him. He was very skilled at drawing in school and continued to do so until he got an opportunity to paint.
In 2014 we got the chance to work at Mardi Gras World and it introduced paint as a medium for him. He would paint different props for the floats and since then has been painting for 12 years now. Kiazer is inspired by Akira Toriyama who was artist behind Dragon Ball Z. He recalls times when he was young running home to watch the show, and trace the characters in his coloring book. He says that every piece that he does describes a point in his life as an artist, but if he was to point out one it would be “Error, This Heart is Broken”. It’s one of his favorites because it was the first time trying a different style in which he doesn’t use hard lines in the subject matter.
Kiazer has had his work displayed in many place with a few being Disco Warehouse, Handsome Willie’s, and the Josh Wingerter Gallery with the latter being where he held his first exhibition. He has also done murals on Magazine st and in Algiers.
Looking forward Kiazer says that he lives in the moment and takes his artistic direction a day at a time just like the he lives his life. “I feel that people often live their life in regret and in the past…or they worry about the future.”If you’re looking to learn more about Kiazer and his work you can follow his instagram as well as check out his website Kiazersylve.com. He’s also at the Josh Wingerter Gallery every Thursday-Sunday 12pm- 6pm.
