Trenity Thomas - June 2025

For the month of June, we would like to turn the spotlight over to Trenity Thomas (@Trenityjthomas) for our artist highlight. Trenity is a painter and photographer from New Orleans that has been painting his whole life with a photography background of 10 years.

Since a child, he has always gravitate towards colors and making crafts. He was placed in the talented art program in second grade, which he continued all the way up to his senior year of high school. He was a teen docent at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and attended NOCCA for a year his junior year.

Being in these spaces allowed him to open his mind to see what an artist can actually be and how seriously art can be taken. He would always carry a small digital camera since middle school and asked his mother for a bigger camera. This was a point where he wanted to take pictures more seriously. Originally he would use his iPod touch to take photos and do edits on them. By high school he would meet a friend who was a photographer and they would take street photos of the city. He says that taking pictures has helped him think more about his paintings and vice versa. Trenity is inspired by his mother how is also an artist. One piece that he feels best explains him as an artist is his painting called “Overlapping”. It’s a painting of people that he has photographed over the years and incorporated childhood memories. He says that it is his best work so far. He has had him work shown in the Odgen Museum of Southern Art, Ferrara Showman Gallery which represents him, and Ashé Cultural Arts Center to name a few. Looking forward, Trinity really focuses on things in the present by continuing to learn and make experiences, but he does want to have a solo exhibit out of the state and overseas in the future.

He wants to be recognized as a known artist in the art world and feels that he’s working his way up to that. He is recently had an artist talk at the Ogden with photos, currently being presented there. In the fall, he will also be having a solo exhibit of strictly his paintings at the Ferrara Showman Gallery and wants to do another exhibit for his 10 year anniversary of doing photography, but it’s not been confirmed yet.
